Tasha Tah

Tasha Tah is a young talented singer from the UK and the latest signing of star producer Rishi Rich. The London-based Tasha has released her debut single “Rewind” last month and is set to conquer the charts with this vibrant and sexy song.

I had the opportunity to interview Tasha on her debut single and a few other interesting topics. Enjoy the interview…

.

Chris: Tasha, first of all I would like to thank you for taking some time off from your busy schedule for this interview! It must be a really exciting month for you with “Rewind” being released on iTunes? Does it feel surreal to you?

Tasha: So exciting and nerve racking as well! I’ve been a struggling artist my whole life until I got signed to Tiffinbeat Records and had the opportunity to work with Rishi Rich. To actually see my song being played on radio and on iTunes is surreal and a bit emotional to be honest. When you’ve worked hard for something and made it your life long dream – to see it become a reality is definitely an indescribable feeling of thanks and humility.

.

Chris: Please tell me more about “Rewind”! What’s the story behind the song? Who wrote the song and what is it about?

Tasha: Rewind was written by Rishi Rich, Veronica and I. The song is a fun filled upbeat Summer Anthem which makes you want to dance. I came into the studio on a Monday and I must have looked a bit partied out, I had the best weekend filled with family, friends, bbq’s, parties, cocktails you name it so the song is based on Rewinding the Weekend!

.

Chris: What are your expectations for your debut single? Have you set any personal goals or targets that you’d like to see achieved with your debut single?

Tasha: The single has received lot of love and people are enjoying my sound. That was my main goal to give people a taster of what I’m all about and what’s to come. I’ve only just started and I feel like I’m on fire!! I can’t wait for the world to see me break out properly.

.

Chris: Your talent as a singer/songwriter was spotted by well-known producer Rishi Rich! How did things kick-off for you? Where and how did Rishi find out about you and your exceptional talent?

Tasha: As I said before I’ve been a struggling artist from the age of 16 and I sent my Demo to every record label that I could think of and never got my break. I was practically stalking producers outside there studios. Then last year a mutual friend said that he knew Rishi personally and that he was looking for a Female artist with my vibe. A month later I auditioned and that was it. My life changed forever.

.

Chris: Would you say that a producer like Rishi and a label like Tiffin Beats Records were the ideal partners for you to start a professional career as a singer? They must be offering lots of experience and expertise to you to have a promising future in music business?

Tasha: Absolutely! Rishi Rich is a pioneer in the Asian Music Industry. When someone says British Asian music, the first name that comes to mind is his. He has worked with some of the top artists in the world and he brings to the table knowledge and expertise that are invaluable. His advice is sacred to me.

.

Chris: “Rewind” is a very vibrant and sexy song! A strong single to start off a career! What can we expect in the coming weeks and months from you? I guess you’re already waiting to release the next few singles?

Tasha: A big BANG! Rewind was just a teaser and now we are just finishing my album and getting to release the first proper single and video.

.

Chris: Which music genre would you classify your style of music as being in?

Tasha:Pop, Dance, Urban – I like to call it an amalgamation of flavours! I don’t like to be limited with my musical style. Music is what u want it to be – beside I’ve invented my own style and its called sexadellic.

.

Chris: Were there any particular singers you looked up or still do for inspiration?

Tasha: Yes lots but mostly Madonna. I think she is versatile and a woman of the ages. She always alters her style of music to cater to audiences of that time period and trends of music. For an artist to have longevity she must be doing something right!

.

Chris: You are a very interesting newbie in the business and I hope “Rewind” will be just the start for a long and very successful career. But who is Tasha? What’s the story behind the story? Fans will be interested to know more about your background! Where do you and your parents hail from? Where did you grow up and which schools did you attend?

Tasha: Wow! O.k. where do I start? (laughs) I’m simple girl who speaks her mind with a big dream. My family has always been involved in Music. My late father was the Europe office for T-series which is one of the largest Asian music companies in the world. My childhood is laced with memories of meeting artist such as Gurdaas Maan, Jagjit Singh, Anuradha Paudwal, Sonu Nigam and many more. My family is from all over the place but my Surname TAH comes from Kashmir. I grew up around greater west London and I have a Degree in Finance believe it or not. Although my parents were very supportive of my career they wanted me to get an education.

.

Chris: Do you have any siblings? What are their names and are they also into music?

Tasha: Yes I have an older sister Piya who has her own Businesses and a younger brother Amo who is training to be a professional cage fighter; he owns an investments company with my mum and is studying for a degree in Finance. We are incredibly close and I don’t make any decision in life without consulting my brother and sister. They are my backbone in life. I’m the only Nutter in my family!

.

Chris: When did you get interested in music? Were there any influences from your family to start singing?

Tasha: Yes my family has been grooming me from the age of six to be on stage; at every given moment I would be performing for some event or another. My parents has instilled in me that I would be a singer when I grow up. But my father always said that the beautiful thing about life is that you can have as many dreams as you like which is why I also got my degree. My mother is a journalist and my Grandmother is a published poet so I guess we all express the written word in different ways. I have an encouraging family which I’m so thankful for.

.

Chris: Do you have any childhood memories about your first singing experiences? What importance does ‘music’ have for you personally?

Tasha: Music is my life and I could not possibly imagine my life without it, it’s as simple as that. Music can accompany a person in all walks of life. Happiness, sadness, love, friendship, partying, weddings, funerals. I don’t know a single place where music does not play a part. Music ignites emotion and without it I would be a lost soul. My childhood was one big party filled with music, dance and whole lot of laugher. I’ve been very lucky.

.

Chris: When and where did you learn professional singing? And how did things develop from there?

Tasha: I’ve been singing forever but I professionally started at about 18 so it been five years of training. I’m quite good at training myself now. Vocal training is part of my every day routine even if it’s for half an hour or 3 hours.

.

Chris: How did your parents react to your passion towards music and did they support you from your early beginning on to become a professional singer?

Tasha: Absolutely! I’m quite fortunate to have a supportive family; we are not your conventional traditionalist family. Lucky for me hey!

.

Chris: What music do you listen to in private? Do you have any favourite artists or music genres?

Tasha: My iPod list is so vast it’s insane. I like everything from dance, hip-hop, pop, RNB, qwalies, bhangra, bollywood. Mostly upbeat songs are on replay and classic from MJ and Madonna. At the moment I’m somewhat obsessed with Eminem’s new album Recovery. It’s his best work till date in my opinion.

.

Chris: Please tell us more about your other hobbies and interest? What things do you do to relax?

Tasha: I’m a fairly active person so it’s hard for me to sit still for long. I’m a gym fanatic so keeping fit is very important to me and keeps me relaxed and focused. However simply spending time with my family and friends having a nice cuppa is the best way for me to unwind.

.

Chris: Do you have any passions besides music? I’ve heard that you’re very fashion addicted and love to go shopping! ‘Valentino’ is considered as your favourite designer?

Tasha: I think I speak for all women universally when I say this; Of course I love to go shopping! My shopping habits were a bit out of control growing up but I think I’ve become more selective over time. I love fashion so much that I’ve made a style scrap book with all my favourite trends and style icons so alternate my look as my career moves forward. Yes, I know scrap booking is a bit sad but one day I would love to have my own clothes line. Seriously jumping ahead of myself but you got to dream big!

.

Chris: Finally I would like to give you a chance to send out a message to everyone reading this interview!

Tasha: A message of pure thanks and love! Without all my supporters out there I would not be doing what I’m doing and I hope you love my album just as much as I’ve loved making it!
