MATCH REPORT
Salgaocar edged past Shillong Lajong 1-0 to reach the final of the  of the 33rd Federation Cup. They defeated their bitter rival in a first semifinal match played at the Saltlake Stadium in Kolkata. The solitary goal of the match was scored by the Goan striker Chidi Edeh in the injury time.

The hard fought battle between the current I-League champions Salgaocar and the giant slayers from the North East Shilling Lajong got off to a very slow start. First half saw defensive game and very few attempts were made by both the teams as they preferred waiting game.

The second half saw extra effort from both the sided to get through the defence and made some daring attempts on each other goal post. In the 59rd minute Johny D. Menyongar made a solo attempt at the Salgaocar post which was foiled by the alert Lajong keeper.

In the 70th minute Goan striker Ryuji Sueoka squandered a chance to put his side in the lead when only the keeper was there to defend. Both the teams were going neck to neck and it seemed imminent that the match would go in the extra time.

Then in the 90th minute charismatic Nigerian striker Chidi Edeh with his powerful left footer buldged the empty net to give his side 1-0 advantage when Lajong goalkeeper Lalthuammawia Ralte lost his balance.

Lajong failed to find a response in stoppage time as Salgaocar held on to reach their first Federation Cup final since 1997.

They will now face winner of the second semifinal. The semifinal match will be played tomorrow between Kingfisher East Bengal and Prayag United SC.

The kick-off for the second semifinal is scheduled at 6pm and the match would be telecast live on News Time and DD Sports.
