The UEFA EURO 2012 Trophy has reached India for a city tour of Delhi, Kolkata and Mumbai. The UEFA EURO 2012 Trophy Tour is organised by Danish brewery Carlsberg, who are one of the tournament sponsors.

The trophy was unveiled at the residence of Freddy Svane, the Ambassador of Denmark to India, on Saturday, before it was taken to the Select City Walk Mall at Saket, New Delhi. Football fans used the opportunty to click photographs with the trophy.

Indian football legend Baichung Bhutia graced the occasion in Delhi and took the trophy with him on his way to Kolkata. The “Henri Delaunay Trophy” was presented at Fame Cinemas, Kolkata under amid cheer of football fans earlier today.

“It is a proud moment for Carlsberg India to bring the official UEFA EURO 2012 Trophy and offer an exceptional experience to football enthusiasts across the nation,” Carlsberg India’s Marketing Director Subodh Marwah told at the ceremony in Delhi.

“We are extremely pleased and encouraged by the positive response received from the football fans. We are keen to engage with them more through exciting activities planned for the coming months. Through these stimulating initiatives, we will grow the enthusiasm around football and EURO 2012 in India,” Marwah added.

The three cities were chosen through an online contest on Carlsberg’s Facebook page. Fans were given the opportunity to cast their vote in the “Vote to get the Trophy to your city” poll, with Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Hyderabad, Bengaluru, Goa, Kochi and Pune being the cities in the run to host the Trophy Tour.

Delhi, Kolkata and Mumbai received the most votes and were awarded the exclusive privileage to host the UEFA EURO 2012 Trophy Tour.

“True to our commitment of providing the best possible experience to Indian consumers, this association with UEFA EURO 2012 represents another milestone to cement the relationship. We are extremely pleased and proud to be able to bring the Trophy to India for the first time and add to this nation’s growing enthusiasm for football. Over the next few months, we will be implementing some exciting campaigns which will create further excitement aboutfootball and EURO 2012, at the same time allowing consumers and fans to connect with the Carlsberg brand,” Soren Lauridsen, Carlsberg India’s Managing Director told.

Talking about the UEFA EURO 2012 and the virtual new champions of Europe, Indian hero Baichung Bhutia told: “My favourite team that can win the trophy is Spain or Germany.”

The world’s second largest football event will be held for the first time in Eastern Europe, when Poland and Ukraine welcomes the elite of European football for the continental championship from June 8 to July 1.
