BREAKING NEWS: Robin Dutt fired at Leverkusen

Robin Dutt

German Bundesliga side Bayer 04 Leverkusen has fired coach Robin Dutt after nine unsuccessful months in charge of the club.

The Indian origin coach reached the BayArena at 8.25 CET and he was informed by the club officials about their decision after an emergency meeting at 9.00 CET today.

Dutt stated at a press conference that he is fully responsible for the current situation at the club and that he failed to secure the results on the pitch.

Dutt joined Bayer 04 Leverkusen at the beginning of the ongoing season with lot of expectations. But the first-ever Indian origin coach in Germany’s top league and also in European football, had to face several poor results during his stint with the club.

Bayer lost five home matches under the reigns of Dutt and they are at the verge to miss the qualification to participate in the Europa League next season. The club has also suffered three major losses in the season, when they bowed out in Round 1 of the German Cup (DFB-Pokal) against 2nd Divison club Dynamo Dresden (3:4), lost in the Bundesliga derby against FC Cologne (1:4) and got humiliated by FC Barcelona (1:7) in the UEFA Champions League.

Bayer’s U19 coach Sascha Lewandowski will take over on a interims basis, while former Liverpool and Leverkusen defender Sami Hyypiä will be the team manager.
