Indian origin footballer Harmeet Singh of Vålerenga Oslo had a roller coaster year so far. The 21 year old midfielder made his senior international debut for Norway in January and was dropped from the Vålerenga squad just a few weeks later, when Harmeet announced that he won’t extend his contract with the club at the end of the season.

Harmeet joined Vålerenga Oslo at the age of 12 and the fans were quite disappointed by his decision to leave the club. But Harmeet is a fighter and he has impressed Vålerenga coach Martin Andresen recently and the PIO found his way back to the starting eleven of the Norwegian club.

“He faced lot of criticism and hostilities by the fans and football personalities after he refused to extend his contract,” Andresen told. “But Singh clenched his teeth and did everything to be better than the other players in the squad and to get back to the team.”

“The past few weeks help me to become a better football player. It has made me stronger both mentally and physically,” Harmeet said.

“The reactions after my announcement didn’t have any effect on me. I was prepared for it,” Harmeet stated. “I continued to train hard and even did a few extra sessions.”

“I’ll do what I can to keep my place in the Vålerenga team and to play a good season. I don’t take anything for granted,” the midfielder added.

Harmeet is considered as the hottest prospect of Norwegian football and he might get a chance to play in one of the best leagues in the world, if he continues to impress in the on-going season.
