I-League: ONGC gains promotion to 1st Division

ONGC

ONGC has qualified for the 1st Division I-League after a 1-1 draw against Aizawl FC in a match played at Gangtok, Sikkim. The Mumbai-based side finished its 2nd Division campaign with a total of 22 points out of 12 matches.

Aizawl FC took the lead in today’s encounter, when Sumaila Safianu found the back of the net in the 30th minute. But Al-Hassan Abubakar levelled the score for the Mumbaikars eight minutes later and secured the promotion for his side.

United Sikkim FC and Mohammedan Sporting Club will finalise the second team to gain promotion, when both outfits face each other in a crucial match tomorrow. Baichung Bhutia’s USFC are in a better position before the final clash, as the Sikkimese team would book their ticket for the top division with a win or a draw. Kolkata’s Mohammedan Sporting Club need to win the match, if they would like to join ONGC in the 1st Division.
