Wellington Phoenix FC trashes Lajong

A-League side Wellington Phoenix FC has trashed Shillong Lajong FC in a “North East Lajong Super Series” match played at the Khuman Lampak Main Stadium in Imphal yesterday. The visitors registered a 5-2 against the I-League team.

Jeremy Brockie was undoubtedly the “Man of the Match” with four goals to his tally. Brockie scored in the 15th and 41st minute to give the Kiwis a 2-0 lead at half-time.

The midfielder completed his hat-trick in the 62nd minute, just to see Shillong Lajong FC coming back through a brace by Nigerian striker Gbeneme Friday (74′ & 84′).

But Brockie (88′) and Thomas Biss (90’+4′) hit the target once again to seal the win for the A-League side.

The Ricki Herbert coached Wellington Phoenix FC have advanced to the final of the “North East Lajong Super Series” with two wins on their side, while Shillong Lajong FC and United Sikkim FC will contest for the second spot in the title match.
