Homeless World Cup 2012: India to face the Mexican challenge

The 10th Homeless World Cup 2012 will take place in Mexico City from October 6-14, 2012. India will be once again represented by a team selected from the Slum Soccer programme run by Krida Vikas Sanstha Nagpur (KVSN).

A total of 48 countries in the men’s competition and 14 countries in the women’s competition will be seen in action during the Homeless World Cup 2012. All the matches are scheduled to take place at the Plaza de la Constitución, Zócalo, Mexico City.

The Indian Men’s team has been drawn into an interesting Group D along with Scotland, Lithuania, Indonesia, Greece and Peru, while the Women’s team would face Brazil, England, Argentina, Canada, Nigeria and Kyrgyzstan in Group B.

The members of Team India were selected at the Slum Soccer National Tournament in Bangalore and the Women’s National Slum Soccer Championship in Nagpur. The Indian team is expected to board a flight to Mexico on October 3.

India finished 30th (Men) and 13th (Women’s) in the last edition of the Homeless World Cup in Paris.
