Bayern Munich hammer Schalke at Doha

FC Bayern München vs FC Schalke 04

German giants FC Bayern Munich have registered a convincing 5-0 win against Bundesliga rivals FC Schalke 04 in a friendly match at the Jassim Bin Hamad (Al-Sadd) Stadium in Doha on Tuesday evening.

The two German teams are currently in the Qatari capital for their winter break training camp at the ASPIRE Academy for Sports Excellence like many other European top teams. Both coaches were eager to test their teams in a competitive match ahead of the second half of a season full of tough challenges at national and international level.

Schalke had the better start in a very competitive match with Julian Draxler (1′) und Ciprian Marica (3′) testing Bayern keeper Tom Starke. But Bayern took the lead ten minutes into the game, when Thomas Müller found the back of the net from a spot kick in front of approximately 2,000 fans.

Müller increased the lead off a Franck Ribéry pass in the 20th minute to finish a perfectly played counter-attack. Bayern kept the pressure high and they were awarded once again with a brace from Croatian international Mario Mandzukic who left Schalke keeper Timo Hildebrand stunned twice in the 33rd and 43rd minute.

Mario Gomez (63′) put the final nail on the coffin with a powerful shot into the top corner to hand Bayern Munich a 5-0 win at the same venue were the Indian national team faced Australia in a 2011 AFC Asian Cup match two years ago.

Bayern have sent out a strong message to the other Bundesliga teams with this convincing win against fellow UEFA Champions League Round of 16 participant FC Schalke 04.
