FC Bayern Munich sign super talent Thiago Alcántara

German giants FC Bayern Munich have agreed terms with FC Barcelona for the transfer of talented midfielder Thiago Alcántara do Nascimento on Sunday.

Thiago, the son of former Brazilian World Cup winner Mazinho, will travel to Munich for the obligatory medical, before signing a four-year contract which will see him kicking the ball at the Allianz Arena until June 30, 2017.

Bayern will pay Barça a transfer fee of €25m in total for the 22-year-old player, while the first €20m will be paid immediately. The remaining €5m will be financed by the proceeds of a friendly match agreed between the two giants of European club football. A further proportion of the remaining sum will be indirectly covered by Thiago Alcantara himself, as the player will forego part of his remuneration.

“Thiago Alcántara was the biggest wish of our new coach Pep Guardiola,” Bayern’s chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge told in an official release by the Bavarians. “We’re delighted we’ve successfully negotiated this major transfer. Only recently, Thiago was named best player at the U-21 European championship. He’s a fantastic player with huge potential, and he will make FC Bayern stronger.”

Guardiola has monitored Thiago Alcántara’s progress and he knows the youngster very well. The Bayern coach promoted the central midfielder to Barça’s 2nd team at the age of 16 in 2007, before he even awarded Thiago his first team debut two years later.

Bayern Munich and their fans are looking forward to see one of the brightest talents in world football in action and they hope Thiago will further strengthen the very strong Bayern squad.
