Churchill Brothers beat Sporting Clube de Goa 2-1

Goa Pro League: Sporting Clube de Goa v Churchill Brothers SC

Churchill Brothers SC continued their winning momentum in the Goa Pro League with an impressive 2-1 victory over Sporting Clube de Goa.

Bineesh Balan and Henri Antchoeut were on the score-sheet for the I-League champions while Victorino Fernandes pulled a goal back for the “Flaming Oranje”.

Churchill Brothers’ Portugese recruit Euripedes Amoreirinha made his debut, replacing Sanjay Balmuchu in the starting line-up.

Mariano Dias and Sukhwinder Singh stuck with the same fruitful strike partnership up front of Henri Antchouet and Bineesh Balan.

Sporting’s Australian striker Boima Karpeh saw his shot well saved by Arindam Bhattacharya in the 10th minute itself.

Bineesh Balan opened the scoring in the 37th minute, when he got on the end of a beautiful cross played in by Richard Costa.

The “Red Machines” led 1-0 going into the break.

Sporting Clube de Goa came out all guns blazing in the second half, Rowlin Borges’s shot was cleared off the line by an alert Elvis Baretto in the 52nd minute, the rebound smashed in by Karpeh was well saved by Arindam.

Victorino Fernandes’ shot in the 63rd minute rattled the Churchill post.

Churchill Brothers extended their lead in the 73rd minute, when Richard came up with another assist, this time Henri Antchoeut was at the end of it, and made no mistake in scoring past the Sporting goalkeeper, Ravi Kumar.

Victorino pulled a goal back for Sporting when Pratesh Shirodkar’s through ball found Victorino Fernandes, who slotted it past the on rushing Arindam Bhattacharya.

The Churchill defence held on in the final minutes after a barrage of attacks from Sporting to help the Red Machines to 12 points from 4 matches.
