The Indian national team has been held to a 1-1 draw by new I-League side Bengaluru FC in a friendly match on Sunday.

Bengaluru FC opened the score sheet in the 32nd minute, when Johnny Menyongar found the back of the net from the spot. India defender Sandesh Jhingan brought down a BFC player in the box and Menyongar had no difficulties to score from the resulting penalty kick.

The Indian team, which is currently getting ready for the SAFF Championship 2013, faced stiff resistence from the hosts at the Bangalore Football Stadium. But Wim Koevermans’ team levelled the score minutes into the second half.

Churchill Brothers midfielder Lenny Rodrigues scored the equalizer in the 49th minute in the closed door match.

Both sides settled for the 1-1 draw after the full 90 minutes and India coach Wim Koevermans would need to do some fine tuning ahead of India’s first SAFF Championship 2013 match against Pakistan on September 1.
