YFC Rurka Kalan, a non-profit social organization working for the development of grassroots football since 2001, launched the 3rd edition of Edu Football League 2014 (EFL) on Thursday at the Press Club, Jalandhar. The Press Conference was held to create awareness among the football ecosystem in Punjab.

Gurmangal Dass, President of YFC launched the official Jonex jersey and the official IndPro and Nivia Sports ball of the league. The aim of the league is to educate and empower the underprivileged kids of the rural community with the help of football and kbaddi to divert our youth away from drug abuse.

It is the third edition of the EFL with 1,000 underprivileged children from eleven different football centres across Jalandhar, Ludhiana and Amritsar. The EDU Football League project will target more than 50 teams of boys in U-12, U-14, U-16 and U-19 age groups and 13 teams in the age categories for girls. These players will participate in competitive ‘7-A-Side’ football matches and will be engaged in educational workshops every weekend for two months, starting January. Tracksuits and sports kits will be provided to all the participants free of cost. Participating teams will get the opportunities to win the Winners and Runners-up trophy and get selected for the best player awards.

The league will be held at six villages namely Chak Muglani, Shankar, Bundala, Bhode Saprai, Jandiala and Rurka Kalan. These centres will be operational throughout the year. The matches will be exclusively broadcasted. This league will not only nourish the young talent but also streamline the activities of the players for their all round development.

The league will kick off on Sunday (January 12) and conclude on February 23. The Opening Ceremony will be held at the YFC Youth & Sports Complex, Rurka Kalan from 13.00 IST onwards. The ceremony would include an official march past of all teams, BSF band performance, welcome program, cultural function, exhibition matches and musical performances by Lehmber Hussainpuri, Raj Jhujar and Balraj Bilga. Many corporate houses and NRIs are coming forward to associate with this unique initiative.
