FIFA General Secretary Jérôme Valcke has stated that the governing body of world football is commited to develop the beautiful game in India.

Talking to my colleague and good friend Arunava Chaudhuri [+ blog] at the SpoBis 2014 (Sports Business Summit) in Dusseldorf, Germany, Valcke said that FIFA’s “main partner in India is the All India Football Federation” and they have “a good relationship”.

“I think this U-17 (World Cup) is to showcase that FIFA is interested and commited to develop football in India.”

“It (India) is an important market (…). The idea with the U-17 (World Cup) is to work on a long-term plan, a ten year plan,” Valcke commented on India hosting the FIFA U-17 World Cup in 2017.
