Sporting Clube de Goa have released their final squad list for the U-19 I-League Goa Zone matches.

The Sporting Clube de Goa U-19 players have been training five times a week since September under the guidance of Spanish head coach Javier Cabrera.

This season, the Sporting Clube de Goa U-19 squad played in the Goa Football Association 2nd Division League for the clubs feeder team Panjim Footballers and qualified for the district play-offs after topping the zonal league.

The Sporting Clube de Goa U-19 team has also played friendly matches against the Sporting Clube de Goa senior team, Dempo SC U-19, GFA 1st Divison side Calangute Association, GFA 2nd Divison team Sangolda Lightning and the University of Goa.

Javier Cabrera believes all his players have special qualities which add to the team’s strength. Mauvin Borges, Charles Cardoz, Lesten Martins, Jesmon Carvalho, Chatur Naik and Alison Fernandes have been registered with the senior team this season and they will give the SCG U-19 side a further boost.

Sporting Clube de Goa  were committed to youth development early on and the club coached by Severino Fernandes, were crowned the inaugural champions of the U-19 I-League on May 21, 2010, defeating East Bengal 4-2 on penalties after the match ended goalless after 120 minutes. Nine players from that Golden era namely Joyner Lourenco, Jovel Martins, Pedro Gonsalves, Pritam Singh, Mackroy Peixote, Stephene Barretto, Valerio Rodrigues, Rowllin Borges and Valzinho Fernandes went on to make their senior team debut, while the majority transferred to other professional clubs.

With the long term development plan of the SCG President Peter Vaz in place, the Flaming Oranje launched the SCG Academy on August 16, 2013, at the hands of AIFF Academy Technical Director Scott O’Donnell.

The Sporting Clube de Goa U-19 side will kick-off its U-19 I-League Goa Zone campaign against Sesa Football Academy at home on February 14, before they continue with four away games at Churchill Brothers SC (February 18), Salgaocar FC (February 21), Dempo SC (February 24) and Sesa Football Academy (March 7). The Goa Zone campaign will end with matches against Churchill Brothers SC (March 10), Salgaocar FC (March 14) and Dempo SC (March 19) at home.

The Goa Zone winner will advance to the U-19 I-League final leg to face the winners from the Kolkata Zone, Mumbai Zone and Shillong Zone, besides the two top teams from the Rest of India Zone.

The six-team U-19 I-League final leg will be played at Jamshedpur scheduled in mid-April.
