United SC will play host to Shillong Lajong FC at the Kalyani Stadium on Sunday at 14.30 IST, which will be the first match for “The Reds” after the I-League break.

The Shillong outfit were supposed to play against Mohammedan Sporting Club on February 16, but the match had been postponed to a later date which will be confirmed by the AIFF.

The Reds will certainly go all out for a win tomorrow and to seal their first win since the I-League break. Lajong’s last I-League match was on December 21 when they registered a 2-1 against Dempo SC.

Shillong Lajong FC were seen last playing in the Federation Cup and although they could not qualify for the semi-finals they indeed displayed a stunning performance losing just once out of their three group stage matches.

Crossing over, Shillong Lajong head into this match in top form with three wins and two losses from their last five matches, while United SC have won just once, drew once and lost three out of their last five games.

United drew their last match against Mumbai FC (1-1) as they conceded a last minute goal by Nicholas Rodrigues. Thangboi Singto’s men will consider this as the opportune moment to bring down the Kolkata side considering their poor form and with their target man Ranti Martins Soleye leaving for Rangdajied United.

Lajong will miss the services of Taisuke Matsugae and Milan Singh who are both out due to injury. Uilliams is expected to make a comeback tomorrow as he was out for few months due to an injury. The club will also look to play their new and only signing during the second transfer window in prolific Assamese striker Durga Boro.

Shillong Lajong FC coach Thangboi Singto said, “We need a strong and a positive start after the break and getting the three points will be great.”

“United plays a good brand of football and they have good experienced players. It’s going to be a tough match for us but we have to perform together as a team and one unit to win. We will be missing Taisuke and Milan which is a big setback. But this will provide an opportunity to other players to play and do well,” he concluded.

Tomorrow’s match promises to be an exciting encounter with the Reds in a breezing form and the Kolkata outfit will definitely put up a thrilling show and try to better their position in the I-League table.
