AFC Cup: Churchill Brothers SC v Home United - Pre-Match Press Conference

Churchill Brothers SC will look to keep their winning momentum intact in the AFC Cup Group E match against Singapore’s Home United.

Churchill Brothers head coach Mariano Dias said, “Lalit Thapa and Saran Singh have recovered from their injuries but our striker Balwant Singh is still doubtful to start the game.”

“Home United is a very good side, they have Singapore national team players like Ismail Younis, Korean midfielder Lee Kwan Woo and Singapore forward Qui Li who can be match winners.”

Mariano Dais was optimistic when asked about his teams chances.”We will take one match at a time, we need to win so that it can boost our confidence.”

Left back Raju Yumnam, who is one of the most experienced player in the Churchill line up, said, “We need to go further and further. Expectations are high from us. I would say that more rest does not mean it’s an advantage. It’s up to the players, but for us this match is very important. We will go for a win to improve our chances to go through to the next level.”

Home United head coach Lee Lim Saeng said that they have eight injured players who did not make the trip to Goa.

“The players are very tired since we played an S.League match on Saturday and then flew to Goa,” Lee Lim Saeng told.

Home United captain Jumaat Jantan is still disappointed by their previous draw against Peraipura Jayapura. “We should have won our previous AFC Cup match vs Persipura Jayapura at home. We dominated the match and should have killed the game in the first half itself. However due to lack of concentration we let in a goal in the second half and the match ended in a 1-1 draw.”

The captain made his intentions clear about the match against Churchill Brothers: “It’s a must win game for us, though we have many players out due to injury, it should not be used as an excuse. All the reserve players have to step up and hopefully we get three points.”

The match will be played at the Fatorda Stadium in Margao tomorrow. It is scheduled to kick-off at 17.30 IST (13.00 CET / 12.00 GMT) and the tickets will be available at the stadium at a price of Rs. 50,-.
