“Although we are out of the title race, we want to finish as high as possible in the league and will be going all out for three points against Salgaocar,” remarked Sporting Clube de Goa coach Oscar Bruzon, as his team take on Salgaocar FC in the I-League at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, Fatorda on Tuesday. The kick-off time is 17.00 IST and there is no live telecast.

Sporting Goa are currently in fourth place with 33 points from twenty two matches and despite no longer being in the running for the title, remain the team that everyone is interested in watching as their two remaining games are against Salgaocar, followed by leaders Bengaluru on the last day of the season. Salgaocar are currently second with 37 points from twenty two games and need a win to stay in the hunt.

Oscar Bruzon set his young team a target of a top five finish at the start of this season and is on course to achieve it and more, provided they stay focused. “I am looking for a high performance from each and every one of my players in the game,” stated the coach.

The Flaming Oranje will be missing Dawson Fernandes, Victorino Fernandes and Pratesh Shirodkar through injury, but Bruzon is not worried as he knows his whole squad is eager to leave a lasting impression and fight for their places.

Since Bruzon took over as coach of Sporting Goa 16 months ago, he has faced Salgaocar seven times in all competitions and has won six and drawn one, but the Spaniard is not one to bask on past glories and will be as competitive as ever. “We need to first be strong in the defence and then build from there patiently, by creating more chances in the final third to attain success,” signed off Bruzon.
