Sporting Clube de Goa adopt Sacred Heart High School in Anjuna

In a span of less than ten days, Sporting Clube de Goa continued to Grow Goa’s Game by swiftly adopting a third Institution for their School Community Grassroots Program, at Anjuna on Friday.

Sacred Heart H/S, Anjuna became the latest educational establishment to enjoy the privilege,  which already includes St. Xavier’s Institute H/S, Curtorim and Pope John XXIII H/S, Quepem.

The club is hoping that through the partnership, where they will offer coaching best practice amongst the necessary equipment to reach for the sky, the School will be able to contribute to their future achievements.

This confidence stems from the fact that the SCG U-14 team matched their senior counterparts this year by winning the state League, which included talented boys from Don Bosco H/S, Panjim where the Academy is based.

Sacred Heart High School Manager Fr Thomas Gonsalves gave the welcome speech in which he thanked SCG President Peter Vaz for providing the impetus and SCG CEO Victor Fernandes for his tireless support.

Sporting Goa U-20 star Jesmon Carvalho who is a former student of the School was introduced to the children during assembly along with other local Flaming Oranje role models, Pratesh Shirodkar and Lesten Martins.

These home grown heroes set the tone for the special ceremony which unfolded. “The talented footballers in the School will get the chance to be absorbed into the SCG Academy, just like Jesmon,” remarked Sporting Goa General Secretary Edward Noronha.

“The state is currently gripped by World Cup fever, but we want to maintain that enthusiasm right up to the U-17 World Cup that India will be hosting and beyond. The SCG Program is a small endeavor taken by our club towards achieving that goal,” stated Sporting Goa manager Angelo Albuquerque.

Whilst signing the Memorandum of Understanding, Sacred Heart H/S Headmistress Mrs. Khan requested her students to truly dedicate themselves to sport along with their studies.

Also present on the occasion was Sporting Goa Head of Youth development Mahesh Lotlikar, SCG Assistant Coach Alex Alvares, PE teacher Uday Naik and football Coach Fausto Lobo. Teacher Barbara Pereira was the compeer.
