The Hero Indian Super League (ISL) Goa franchise has officially presented its name and logo at a press conference today. The franchise is owned by Dattaraj Salgaocar, Shrinivas Dempo and Venugopal Dhoot of Videocon.

“We are launching your team. We are just the promoters. We want to make this your club. Everything about this club will be Goan,” co-owner Shrinivas Dempo said. “After running a sucessful Indian football club for 40 years it was time for a fresh infusion of the spirit of Goan football to take it to the next level; and so FC Goa was born.”

“There is no hope for immediate returns. We are going to spend for the next few years. ISL is not only about glamour and hype. Every team has to promote grassroots. We are appointing coaches.”

Manohar Parrikar, Chief Minister of Goa, unveiled the FC Goa logo which is a combination of Goa’s state animal – an Indian bison – and a shield.

“The logo personifies the character of Goan football and the fundamentals of the team we have put together. We are certain that our history in Indian football will hold our team in good stead and fight a good fight in the first edition of the Hero Indian Super League,” Dattaraj Salgaocar told.

FC Goa will be also launching India’s first satellite Sports TV Channel run by a sports club or federation. FC Goa TV will be telecasted on Videocon d2h.

“Videocon has been involved in promoting Indian sport extensively. We see great potential in Indian football; to the extent it could very well be the most popular sport in India in time to come. We are proud to partner with Mr. Shrinivas Dempo and Mr. Dattaraj Salgaocar who run two of the most successful football teams in India,” Anirudh Dhoot, Director, Videocon stated.

Meanwhile, FC Goa have signed Scotsman Steve Clarke as their head coach, while Dempo SC coach Arthur Papas will be his assistant coach. Clarke, a former Scotland international, had his last coaching assignment at West Bromwich Albion in the 2012-13 season, which happened to be his first assignment as a head coach. He has worked as an assistant coach at Newcastle, Chelsea, West Ham and Liverpool.
