Chennaiyin FC announced the signings of Cameroonian midfielder Eric Djemba-Djemba and Haitian forward Jean-Eudes Maurice.

Djemba-Djemba is a former Manchester United player and was last plying his trade for Scottish Premiership club St Mirren. The 33-year-old midfielder has represented Cameroon 24 times at senior international level including the 2002 FIFA World Cup.

Maurice is a former Paris Saint Germain player and has also featured for Lens and Le Mans in the French top tier. The 28-year-old is currently a member of the Haiti national team and has an excellent record of scoring 10 goals in 15 international appearances.

Djemba-Djemba and Maurice have been roped in due to the imminent departures of Swedish midfielder Pierre Tillman and Spanish striker Eduardo Silva Lerma. There were technical issues with the contracts of both Tillman and Eduardo and thus they will leave Chennaiyin FC.

“We are happy to sign Djemba-Djemba and Maurice. Both are top players and will add plenty of quality and experience to our team. We are also sad that Tillman and Eduardo are leaving and wish them well for the future,” said Chennaiyin FC manager-player Marco Materazzi.

Djemba-Djemba spent two seasons at Manchester United and won the FA Cup in 2004. He also played for Aston Villa in the English Premier League besides having stints in Qatar, Denmark, Israel and Serbia.

Maurice was born in France but went on to represent Haiti at international level and also played in the 2013 CONCACAF Gold Cup. After initially starting his youth career in USA, the forward moved to France and has spent his entire professional career there.

Djemba-Djemba and Maurice are expected to be in India next week once they get their visas. Chennaiyin FC is looking forward to having them in action soon in the Hero Indian Super League.
