Indian and Mizoram football is mourning the tragic death of Bethlehem Vengthlang FC midfielder Peter Biaksangzuala. Peter suffered a fatal injury while celebrating his goal in a Mizoram Premier League (MPL) match last week.

The 23 year old footballer passed away on Sunday at the Aizawl Civil Hospital leaving friends, family and football fans around the country in a state of shock.

Peter displayed impressive skills for FC Kulikawn in the inaugural 2012/13 season of the Mizoram Premier League. He went on to play for MPL champions Dinthar FC and Nangkiew Irat, Shillong, before he joined league newcomers Bethlehem Vengthlang FC.

Bethlehem Vengthlang FC faced Chanmari West FC in a league match on October 14 and Peter Biaksangzuala scored his first MPL goal. The young footballer attempted to celebrate his goal with a somersault but he unfortunately made an awkward land on his neck.

Peter was immediately rushed to the Aizawl Civil Hospital and the doctors diagnosed a serious injury on the spinal cord after conducting a CT Scan. The Bethlehem Vengthlang FC player succumbed to his injuries and he was pronounced dead five days after the match.

Bethlehem Vengthlang FC have announced they would retire Peter’s number 21 jersey.

Rest in Peace Peter Biaksangzuala!
