Chennaiyin FC will take on Delhi Dynamos FC in an away game of the Hero Indian Super League (ISL) on Saturday.

Player-cum-coach Marco Materazzi and defender Bernard Mendy attended the pre-match press conference to talk about the match at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Delhi.

“The pitch is the same everywhere if you play with heart and that is what we have been doing. Our spirit and never-say die attitude has got us the points so far,” Marco Materazzi said.

“Del Piero knows me very well so I wont play and maybe I will put somebody else to stop him,” the Italian stated on his plans to tackle his former national team team mate.

“I am very happy with my strikers. Among Indians we have Balwant Singh and Jeje Lalpekhlua and there is Mendoza as well while Jean Eudes Maurice will be joining the team soon. Balwant of course is currently in the India national team and I think he has the potential to play in Italian Serie B.”

Asked about the good combination of Indians and foreigners, Materazzi added, “There are two reasons behind it. One – the club management have done an enormous job to set everything together in short time and secondly we have champions like Elano, Silvestre, Mendy and Bojan. They are helping the Indian players, who are learning a lot from the foreigners.”

Former French international Bernard Mendy was the Man of the Match in the last game for Chennaiyin FC, when he secured his team a 2-1 against Kerala Blasters FC with a stunning bicycle kick.

“I have scored many goals in my career but never like the one I scored against Kerala Blasters. But the most important aspect is the team so my aim will be to get three points,” Mendy told.

“I always try to do my best no matter who the opponent is. Whether it’s Del Piero, Pires or Anelka.”

“I think our fighting spirit has been great so far and we will aim to continue that tomorrow,” the Frenchman concluded.
