Mumbai City FC v Delhi Dynamos FC

Mumbai City FC welcomed Delhi Dynamos FC in a Hero Indian Super League (ISL) encounter at the D.Y. Patil Stadium on Wednesday.

Mumbai City suffered an early setback as skipper Syed Rahim Nabi suffered an injury just one minute into the game. Head coach Peter Reid had no other option than to substitute Nabi and bring on Peter Costa.

Both sides tried their luck to open the score sheet with long range attempts, but most of the shots didn’t produce any danger to the respective goals. The game went into the half-time break with a goalless draw as both coaches knew the importance of the game and the need to claim three points from the encounter.

The home side took the lead in the 59th minute when former French international Nicolas Anelka scored his second goal of the season. Singam Subash Singh delivered a perfect ball into the box from the right side and Anelka had no difficulties to put the ball past Delhi Dynamos FC goalkeeper Kristof Van Hout.

Mumbai City failed to increase their lead through Anelka and Subash, while Alessandro Del Piero missed the a golden opportunity to score the equaliser for the visitors as the Italian somehow put a header wide from a close distance.

Wim Raymaekers had another chance for Delhi in the dying moments of the game, but his header was denied by a sensational save by Indian international goalkeeper Subrata Pal.

Mumbai City FC won the match 1-0 courtesy to another goal by Frenchman Nicolas Anelka.
