FC Pune City v Chennaiyin FC

FC Pune City took on Chennaiyin FC in a Hero Indian Super League (ISL) match at the Shree Shiv Chhatrapati Sports Complex Stadium on Tuesday.

The home side took the lead just nine minutes into the game when Kostas Katsouranis tapped the ball into the goal from a close distance. The 2014 FIFA World Cup participant had no difficulties to convert a perfect cross by Israil Gurung from the right side.

FC Pune City was lucky enough not to concede the equalisier minutes later as Daniele Magliocchetti gave away a penalty to Chennaiyin. Elano stepped up to take the penalty, but the former Brazilian international put the spot kick off target.

Chennaiyin FC was the better side in the early moments of the game with more chances to their record, but the score line favoured the hosts when both sides went into the half-time break. John Stiven Mendoza Valencia could have scored a few goals for the visitors, but FC Pune City were clever enough to keep their lead.

Mendoza finally found the back of the net in the second half to hand Chennaiyin FC the equaliser they deserved. Mendoza won the ball back from Dharmaraj Ravanan, before playing it across to Balwant Singh who returned it back to his striking partner. The Colombian striker put the ball past FC Pune City goalkeeper Arindam Bhattcharya with a cool and calm finish.

The highly entertaining end-to-end match ended in an 1-1 draw as both sides split the points after 90 minutes
