The fifth and final league round of the Sunfeast Dream Cream Roots Football League at the Holy Ghost Church Ground, Richards Park witnessed a lot of nail biting action with the teams desperately fighting for a place in the play-offs in the U-11, U-13 and U-15 categories. The goal frenzy and fast pace of small sided games was in full display across all the the age groups. The league has so far witnessed a phenomeneal 318 goals from the 65 matches played across all the five age categories.

The third season of this two month long league for budding junior footballers in Bangalore draws to a close next weekend (Saturday, February 28) with the final round of play-off matches in the U-11, U-13 and U-15 categories. The U-7 and U-9 categories will play the last match of their return round robin to decide the champions of in their respective categories.

In the U-7 age category, the rampant Unitus Capital Cheetahs demolished Lions 8-1 to hold on to their position at the top of the table with a superior goal difference. Sehajvir Arora once again was the star for the Cheetahs scoring four goals. In the other match the Sharks defeated Orchestrate Eagles 3-2 in a closely fought match to stay on par with the Cheethas on points and set up a potential final match against the Unitus Capital Cheetahs next week in their last league round match.

The U-9 matches saw the Lions defeat the Sharks 2-1 and take over the top position in the table with nine points, one point ahead of Unitus Capital Cheetahs who played out a thrilling 2-2 draw against Orchestrate Eagles. The Lions meet Unitus Capital Cheetahs in their final league match with the winner having the chance to be crowned champions. Orchestrate Eagles though level on points with the Cheetahs but with an inferior goal difference still have an outside chance of becoming champions if they win their final match against bottom placed Sharks while hoping the Cheetahs and Lions play out a draw.

In the U-11 category, the Bisons missed out on qualifying for the championship play-off after losing to the Lions 2-1. Unitus Capital Cheetahs earned a 1-1 draw to stop the four match winning streak of the leaders Sharks and setup a rematch between the same two teams for the chamionship play-off. In another match the Orchestrate Eagles thrashed the Rhinos 4-1.

The U-13 matches saw a resurgent Unitus Capital Cheetahs beat the Rhinos 2-0 and the Sharks returning to form to blow away the Bisons 5-0 with all five goals scored by Gokul Joshua, who’s been in sublime touch. In another closely contested match, Orchestrate Eagles edged past the toppers Lions to win 3-2, though the Lions still managed to qualify for the championship play-off along with the Sharks.

The U-15 match between the top two teams saw the second place Bisons maul the toppers Rhinos 5-0 to finish on top and qualify for the championship play-off. Orchestrate Eagles also earned a place in the championship play-off thrashing bottom placed Lions 9-2. Nikhil Raj of Orchestrate Eagles led the goal rout scoring seven goals. In the other match in this category Sharks drew against Unitus Capital Cheetahs 2-2.
