The season has barely got over and Sporting Clube de Goa have already made an exciting splash into the transfer market with the acquisition of Nigerian talisman Odafe Okolie who signed a contract extension for the Flaming Oranje, at the club headquarters in Panjim on Thursday.

The 29 year-old had initially joined Sporting Goa mid-way through the season from Churchill Brothers SC. After impressing with eight goals in nine appearances which helped the club stay afloat they decided to extend his contract for next season.

“I would like to thank God, my wife and family, the SCG President, coaching staff, players and Flaming Oranje fans for supporting me,” stated Odafe.

Sporting Goa strongly believe that Odafe can contribute in propelling the club to challenge for the title next year.

“We have begun a partnership with one of the all-time leading goal scorers in Indian Football. The dynamics of this synergy will play out on the field next season,” remarked the SCG President Peter Vaz.

“As Odafe motivates his team mates to challenge for honours, we are sure they will also assist him in reaching his past feats of finishing as the top goal scorer in the I-League. The stage is set for some exciting times ahead,” added Peter.

It is not only the quantity of the goals, but the sheer quality of the finishes which has encapsulated audiences in each venue he has played. The goals against Mohun Bagan AC and Pune FC were particularly classy, but Odafe feels all the goals were equally important as they were for the benefit of the team.

Besides his precious goal scoring, Odafe also lifted the team in his role as the club captain and it is this vital leadership and experience that the club is also looking to harness to build for success.

“We are hoping to carry on the momentum of the performances the team produced in the later stages of the I-League which was spear headed by Odafe in the attack,” reasoned SCG CEO Victor Fernandes.
