Bayern Munich sign Mats Hummels and Renato Sanches

FC Bayern München

Bundesliga champions FC Bayern Munich have announced the signings of Germany star Mats Hummels and Portugal youngster Renato Júnior Luz Sanches. Both players will join Bayer at the start of the 2016/17 season.

Mats Hummels has agreed to join Bayern from arch-rivals Borussia Dortmund. The 27 year old defender, a product of the Bayern Youth Academy, will undergo the obligatory pre-transfer medical in Munich before signing a five-year contract binding him to Bavarians until June 30, 2021.

Portugal international Renato Sanches will be joining the German side from Benfica. The 18 year old midfielder completed the obligatory pre-transfer medical on Monday and signed a five-year contract until June 30, 2021.

“We are delighted that Mats Hummels has decided in favour of FC Bayern,” FC Bayern Munich chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge stated in an official club release. “Mats is one of the best centre-backs in the world. With him we will increase the quality in our team even further.”

Talking about Renato Sanches, Rummenigge said, “FC Bayern has been watching Renato Sanches for a long period. We’re pleased we’ve been able to sign him despite big-name international competition. Renato is dynamic, a good tackler and a technically skilled midfielder who’ll add even more strength to our team.”

The transfer fee for the Portugal starlet has been announced by Bayern as €35 million plus possible bonus payments. Bayern did not disclose the transfer fee for Hummels.
