India U-17 World Cup boys go down fighting against Arminia Bielefeld U-16

DSC Arminia Bielefeld v India U-17

The DSC Arminia Bielefeld U-16 boys, who ply their trade in the U-16 Landesliga, got the better of the 2017 FIFA U-17 World Cup bound India U-17 national team by an unassailable margin of 3-1 at Duisburg in Germany on Saturday. Aman Chetri netted the only goal for the Indians from the six-yard penalty spot in the second half.

India started on a high note and started to push harder for the opening goal. Aman Chetri came very close to scoring the opening goal within ten minutes but he stumbled in the penalty box to lose out the opportunity. In the 22nd minute, India earned their first corner but Komal miscued the golden chance to put his team on the driver’s seat.

The Arminia Bielefeld finally got their nose ahead in the 39th minute and maintained the lead till the lemon break.

After the resumption, Komal made a cheeky dummy run from the right flank but the sturdy Bielefeld defender intercepted well to avert the danger. India U-17 head coach Nicolai Adam opted for the first change in the 50th minute as Joysana was introduced at the expense of Gaston.

Just at the stroke of the hour-mark, goalkeeper Dheeraj Singh played a long ball which, Aman Chetri collected with much apt and cut into the box. Eventually, Komal was brought down inside the box and the referee awarded Indian colts a penalty which was converted with much ease by Aman Chetri.

The joy for the Indian team was short lived as Arminia Bielefeld took the lead once again from the penalty spot. Two minutes after Aman scored the equaliser, defender Sarif Khan handled the ball inside the box and Bielefeld took the charge of the match once again.

In the dying minutes of the match, the homies doubled the lead to take everything away from the Indian team who hit the pitch without a few regular starters in the likes of Amarjit, Aniket, Ninthoinganba and Abhijit.

The Indian team will play their next match against Sportfreunde Siegen U-16 on July 30, 2016 at 22.00 IST (18.30 CET / 17.30 GMT).
