India U-16 Women’s Team commence Training Camp for AFC U-16 Qualifiers

India U-16 Women’s National Team

The India U-16 Women’s National Team kicked-off their preparatory camp for the forthcoming AFC U-16 Women’s Championship Qualifiers at the Sports Authority of India (SAI) Training Center in Patiala, Punjab from July 24, 2016 to August 25, 2016.

India have been clubbed alongside Korea Republic, the Philippines, Malaysia and Northern Marina Island in Group B for the AFC U-16 Women’s Championship Qualifiers, which are slated to kick-off from August 28, 2016 in Wei Fang, China.

The Indian U-16 Team faces the Philippines in their opening encounter on August 28, 2016, before locking horns with Malaysia on September 1 and Northern Marina Islands on September 3, 2016. The Indian eves clash swords against heavyweights Korea Republic in their final match of the Qualifying round on September 5, 2016.

30 players have been called up to the one month long camp and according to Head Coach Maymol Rocky the focus will be on, “fitness and boosting chemistry between the players.”

“We are facing teams like Korea (Republic) and Malaysia, hence we have to be on top of our game if we are to defeat them”, Maymol told AIFF Media.

“There is no room for complacency.”

Reflecting on the squad at hand, Maymol said, “The girls are like rough diamonds. They have the potential to go a long way, but they need to work hard in order to evolve.”
