Mumbai City FC sign Uruguay star Diego Forlán as marquee player

Mumbai City FC have announced the signing of Uruguay legend Diego Forlán as their marquee player for the 2016 Indian Super League (ISL).

The 37 year old star striker began his professional career with Argetine outfit Club Atlético Independiente in 1997, before his illustrious career continued with EPL giants Manchester United, La Liga outfits Villarreal CF and Atlético Madrid, Italian giants Inter Milan, Brazil’s Sport Club Internacional, J.League club Cerezo Osaka and Club Atlético Peñarol back home in Uruguay.

The 2010 FIFA World Cup Golden Ball Award winner is currently Uruguay’s second all-time most-capped national team player with 112 caps and 36 goals to his name. Forlán, who is regarded as one of the greatest Uruguayan players of all time, announced his retirement from the “La Celeste” in March 2015.

Ranbir Kapoor, Owner, Mumbai City FC said, “It’s really exciting to have a player of Diego’s quality play for us in the upcoming season. He’s one of the best in the business and I can’t wait to see him on the field fighting it out for Mumbai.”
