Stakeholders to meet at AFC HQ in Kuala Lumpur to discuss Indian football’s roadmap

All India Football Federation (AIFF) - I-League - Indian Super League (ISL)

At the invitation of AIFF President Praful Patel, the General Secretary of Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Dato Windsor John visited India on Wednesday (May 24, 2017) for discussions on the future roadmap for Indian Football.

Patel, Dato Windsor and Kushal Das, General Secretary, AIFF had an extensive discussion on the future road map for Indian football. The meeting was a follow-up to the earlier meeting which they had on the sidelines of the FIFA Congress held in Bahrain in April this year.

The central part of the discussion revolved around the growth and footprint expansion for football in India involving all stakeholders – the players, infrastructure, the national league and the commercial partners.

Patel mooted the idea for a meeting of all stakeholders be held under the aegis of AFC to discuss the roadmap for the growth of Indian football. The AFC General Secretary readily accepted the suggestion and proposed the meeting be organised in Kuala Lumpur on June 7, 2017.

The meeting which will be chaired by AFC General Secretary will be attended by various AFC Directors. Invitation will also be extended to senior representatives from FIFA’s competition department and senior representatives from the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of India, the I-League and ISL Clubs, AIFF’s Commercial Partner and the Football Players’ Association of India (FPAI).

Commenting on the development Praful Patel, AIFF President said: “I need to thank Dato Windsor John for taking the time to spend his day for Indian Football and readily accepting our proposal to have an all stake holders meeting and confirming a date at such short notice.”
