DFL announces Bundesliga match dates until end of September

The DFL Deutsche Fussball Liga has announced the exact times and dates for the Bundesliga and Bundesliga 2 Matchdays through until the end of September. In the Bundesliga, dates and times until Matchday 6 have been announced; in Bundesliga 2, dates and times to Matchday 8 have been announced, following the recent release of kick-off times for Matchday 1 and 2.

In the opening match of the 55th Bundesliga season, current Bundesliga champions FC Bayern München welcome Bayer 04 Leverkusen on Friday, 18 August (20.30CEST kick-off). In the first Saturday evening match of the new season, on August 19 (18.30 CEST), Schalke 04 host RB Leipzig.

For the clubs involved in the UEFA Europa League, three matches will take place on Sunday of Matchday 4. In order to maintain sufficient regeneration time following UEFA Europa League matches on Thursday evenings, on five occasions in 2017/18 there will be one additional game on a Sunday and on five occasions there will be one additional game on a Monday.

As a result, Sunday 17 September (Matchday 4), UEFA Europa League participants Hertha Berlin will face TSG 1899 Hoffenheim, who are involved in the UEFA Champions League play-offs (13:30 CEST). SC Freiburg, who are able to qualify for the group phase of the UEFA Europa League, travel to Bayer 04 Leverkusen (15:30 CEST), while UEFA Europa League participants 1. FC Köln will play at Borussia Dortmund (18:00 CEST).

In the first of two “English Weeks” during the 2017/18 Bundesliga season, to be played on September 19 (Tuesday) and September 20 (Wednesday), one match will kick-off at 18.30 CEST. The other kick-off times, of which three are on Tuesday and four on Wednesday, will commence at 20.30 CEST.

The new Matchday rules in Bundesliga 2 begin on Matchday 3, with only two matches played on Friday and three matches on Saturday. Also, in the interest of fans, kick-off of encounters played during the “English Week” on Matchday 7 will take place at 18.30CEST, changing from 17.30 CEST as it was before. To end the Matchday, 1. FC Nürnberg will face VfL Bochum 1848 on Thursday, 21 September 20.30 CEST.

The next announcement of the exact times and dates for the Bundesliga and Bundesliga 2 Matchdays will take place following the draw of the UEFA Champions League and UEFA Europa League group phases on 24/25 August in calendar week 35 (August 28 to September 1).
