The Indian Senior Women’s National Team were held to a 4-4 draw by the Delhi Dynamos U-16 boys in a friendly game at the New Wellingdon Ground in New Delhi. The girls fell behind early on before taking a 4-2 lead in the 2nd half but the boys pulled things level in the dying minutes to share the honours.

The girls began the first half sluggishly as they fell behind within the first 15 minutes itself. But they came into their own as passing improved and superiority in the midfield was established. Anju Tamang took advantage of this situation as she struck twice in the 30th and 34th minute to put the team into a 2-1 lead at half-time.

The second half began with the Women extending their lead through Kamala Devi. Her neat footwork left the defenders stranded as the ball found the back of the net. The Dynamos pulled one back soon after before substitute Ritu Rani capitalised on the opposing team’s mistake to lob the ball over the goalkeeper in the 61st minute to make it 4-2.

Rain in the second half had made the ground slushy as the boys tried to assert their physical superiority as they got one back on the counter in the 65th minute. Both teams pressed on but in the end Delhi Dynamos found the elusive equaliser in the dying minutes as they teams settled for a draw.

This match was a practice encounter ahead of their trip to Malaysia to play two internationals friendlies later this month on July 29 and July 31.
