The Goa Football Association (GFA) and “Discover Football”, a Germany based organization, which promotes Women Empowerment have come to an understanding to promote the broad objective of “Discover Football” to get more and more Women interested in football, increase social acceptance of Women’s Football, strengthen Women Empowerment through a network of support for Women’s Football, promote inter cultural exchange, and address various issues relating to Women.

At a meeting of the Women’s Sub Committee, which was presided over by the President, Elvis Gomes, the clauses in the draft MoU were discussed and agreed upon. It may be recalled that Tibetian Women Football had last year visited the State under the aegis of “Discover Football” and played two matches in Goa.

The GFA and “Discover Football” have taken it further to organize an All India Invitational Tournament for Women comprising of eight teams, which will be held at Duler from 05.08.2017 to 13.08.2017.

Welcoming Johanna Small from “Discover Football”, GFA President Elvis Gomes said that the partnership would go a long way in filling the missing gap in the development and promotion of football by making it inclusive for women also.

He further said that this tournament would be used as a precursor to the proposed league for women, which shall be held from the month of October in the State. The event will also include football camps for Junior Girls and Workshops for various Women groups along with Cultural Programmes during the period.
