Indian Super League franchise Kerala Blasters have announced the signing of former Bayer 04 Leverkusen, Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur striker Dimitar Berbatov of Bulgaria for ISL – Season 4.

36 year old Blagoevgrad-born Dimitar Ivanov Berbatov played at local side Pirin Blagoevgrad before being picked-up by Bulgarian giants CSKA Sofia. He made his breakthrough at CSKA before being transferred to German Bundesliga side Bayer 04 Leverkusen, where initially he played and impressed for the second team before making an instant impact at Bayer 04 in their best-ever season, 2001/02 in which they finished second in the UEFA Champions League, Bundesliga and German Cup.

After five successful years in Germany, Berbatov left Leverkusen to join Tottenham Hotspur in the English Premier League in 2006 and after two seasons he moved on to join Premier League giants Manchester United. He played four seasons for the Reds before leaving them to join Fulham FC.

In 2014 Berbatov left England after eight years to play a season for AS Monaco and that was followed by a stint with Greek Superleague side PAOK Saloniki. After a years break with Berbtov having been linked with ISL franchises he now joins the Kerala Blasters under former coach Rene Meulensteen and team mate Wes Brown.

Dimitar Berbatov, named Bulgaria’s Footballer of the Year on seven occasions, has played 78 times for his country scoring 48 goals.
