Goals galore as Schalke 04 win charity match against FC Gütersloh

Bundesliga side FC Schalke 04 recorded a 9-0 away win against Oberliga (5th Division) club FC Gütersloh at the Energieversum Stadium (Heidewaldstadion) in Gütersloh an Thursday evening. The cause of the match was to raise some money to help FC Gütersloh who just managed to avoid bankruptcy at the very last minute.

A total of 4,032 fans attended the match and enjoyed some quality football from the Bundesliga club and even had a reason to cheer for the home team, who put up a spirited performance.

Schalke, coached by 31 year old gaffer Domenico Tedesco, took the lead in the 28th minute when Coke headed home a cross from United States U-20 international Nicholas Taitague. The Spaniard doubled the lead just two minutes later with his second goal of the match, while Germany international Max Meyer (36′) secured Schalke a 3-0 lead at half-time.

Swiss international Breel Embolo, who made his comeback after a ten-month injury layoff, scored a brace (49′, 57′) to further increase the “Royal Blues” lead. Man of the match Max Meyer added three more goals (64′, 84′, 86′), while substitute Bastian Oczipka (84′) also found the back of the net to seal the 9-0 win for the visitors.
