Mohammedan Sporting Club ready for Customs test

Mohammedan Sporting Club looks to extend their winning streak in the Calcutta Football League when they take on Calcutta Customs on Tuesday.

The Black Panthers came from behind to register a crucial 5-2 win over Peerless Sports Club in their last match and will be confident heading into the game at Barasat Stadium.

Mohammedan SC, who are currently on third place with 9 points from four games, has given a commendable performance so far slamming in 15 goals and will be eager to log their fourth straight win of the campaign for catching the table toppers to remain in title contention.

Customs, on the other hand, enduring a disappointing campaign so far, garnering a mere 2 points from 5 games and hanging dangerously in the relegation zone.

“The morale of the players is high and I am confident that they will play to win. We will try out best to record a win as we want to go forward. We are keen to be on the top and stay closer to the leader,” said Mohammedan SC Head Coach Biswajit Bhattacharya.

About Mohammedan SC’s opponents, coach Bhattacharya answered: “Customs will be a difficult team to beat as they are a very hardworking team. But I do not wish to look at the opponent and focus more on our own objective that is to win every match.”

Though coach Bhattacharya showing respect for Customs but determined to adopt a positive attacking approach and go all out for a win to grab three points on offer.

Mohammedan SC’s big signings like Aser Pierrick Dipanda Dicka and Jiten Murmu respectively has five and four goals each to their names, while Shekh Faiaz also figures in the goal scoring list with three goals. All the three combine well as was visible in the last match against Peerless Sports Club, and the return of Manvir Singh from National duty and Manandeep Singh from injury will sharpen the Mohammedan SC front-line even further.

However, goalkeeper Rashid Nalakath is going to miss the action due to illness which would see controversy’s favourite child Sankar Roy making a return to the playing XI.

The match in Barasat Stadium kicks off at 17.00 IST and it will be televised live on Kolkata TV.
