FIFA U-17 World Cup India 2017

The FIFA U-17 World Cup India 2017 knockout stage kicked off on Monday with the first two Round of 16 matches at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in New Delhi.

Group A runners-up Colombia and Group C runners-up Germany were the first ones to clash in the capital. Germany took an early lead as talented Hamburger SV striker Jann-Fiete Arp found the back of the net in the 7th minute, while Yann Bisseck added another goal to their tally to give Germany a comfortable 2-0 lead at the breather.

John Yeboah (49′) and Jann-Fiete Arp (65′) further increased the lead in the second half to secure Christian Wück’s team an impressive 4-0 win and a spot in the quarter-finals.

Meanwhile, the second match of the day saw the United States go past Paraguay 5-0. Tim Weah scored a hat-trick in the empathic victory against the South Americans. Andrew Carleton and Josh Sargent scored the two other goals for the United States.

Germany will face the winner of the Brazil v Honduras match in their quarter-final encounter on October 22 at the Saltlake Stadiun in Kolkata, while the USA lock horns with the winner of England v Japan on October 21 at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Margao, Goa.
