Former Ivory Coast international and Werder Bremen striker Boubacar Sanogo has joined German 4th Division (Regionalliga Nordost) club VSG Altglienicke with the aim to do his coaching licences, while playing at lower level.

NorthEast United FC had signed Sanogo for the 2015 Indian Super League season, but the experienced striker was ruled out for the entirety of the season after suffering a quadriceps tear during training.

“India attracted me because many other players from Europe such as former Bayern player Lúcio and former Portuguese international Simão played there and I heard a lot of good things,” Sanogo told in an interview with German football portal fussball.de, while asked about his stints in the UAE, India and Indonesia after playing for Werder Bremen in the Bundeslig and AS Saint-Étienne in the French Ligue 1. “I do not regret any of these stints as I was able to gain exciting insights and contacts.”

Asked about the quality of Indian football, the 35 year old Ivorian said, “Football in India is quite impressive. This is mainly because most of the players are foreigners and they often have the experience of playing at top level in Europe. The quality of the Indian Super League is not comparable to the Bundesliga. But I would say, that Indian first division clubs could be certainly match up to the Bundesliga 2.”

Sanogo has already obtained his C Level Coaching Licence during his time in the United Arab Emirates and he is now looking forward to get his B Level Coaching Licence in Germany.
