Panjim Footballers scored a fluent 2-0 win over Churchill Brothers Sports Club in a Goa Football Association’s U-20 Taca Goa League One match played at Duler Stadium, on Monday.

The Panjim team scored in either half of the play through Samuel D’Souza and Aman Govekar.

Both teams started the match on a much relaxed mode playing the ball more in the midfield. However, Panjim Footballers came back strongly in the second quarter of the match which saw them attack in number and restrict the Churchill Bros in their own half.

The Panjim side took the much deserved lead in the 37th minute when a pin point cross from Oswald Fernandes found Samuel, who headed past the helpless keeper to make it 1-0.

The goal pumped up the Panjim side as they had couple of chances at the rival goal only to see their strikers waste their opportunities from close. Changing ends, Panjim Footballers started from where they had left but they just couldn’t keep their cool infront of the rival goal. First Oswald saw his effort save by the keeper and then Mozwin shot wide. Aman too saw his effort go way off target when Mozwin found him through at goal early in the second half.

Churchill Brothers were totally overpowered by quick passing and possession play by the Panjim side. Churchill keeper Wasim Khan denied Ricardo Cardozo with a fine save to keep his side away from any further damage.

At the other end, Churchill Bros had their chance to level terms but Panjim keeper Karol Soares pulled off a stunning save to deny Hussain in the 73rd minute.

Panjim doubled the lead when Aman headed in Mozwin’s corner.

The wins means, Panjim collected their first three points of the season.
