Chennaiyin FC’s U-18 team defeated Chennai City FC 2-1 in an U-18 Youth League match at the Gateway International School ground here today. The result meant Chennaiyin FC completed the double over the opponents this season, having beaten them 5-0 in the corresponding fixture.

It took Chennaiyin FC just six minutes to open the scoring. K. Kalaiarasan made it 1-0 with a first-time volley, assisted by Zahaid Ahmed from the left flank. Chennaiyin FC’s in-form striker B. Rohmingthanga then doubled the lead on 27 minutes.

The second half began in similar fashion with the Chennaiyin FC U-18s dominating proceedings, but failing to convert any clear cut chances. It was a bitter end to the game as Chennaiyin FC boys Rohmingthanga and Joseph Lalsanglura were both sent off for violent conduct. Chennai City FC pulled one back from the penalty spot courtesy Srivatsan but Chennaiyin FC held on to make it nine points and a third consecutive victory in the U-18 Youth League.

The Chennaiyin FC U-18s’ next match will be at Bengaluru against Ozone Football Academy on Monday, January 15.
