The Goa Football Association (GFA) condoled the death of Vivian Furtado who represented Goa in the Nationals in 1964 (Guwahati) and 1965 (Quilon).

Stockily built, he came into prominence when he played for Vasco Sports Club in the period 1964-67. It was widely believed that in 1966 when Vasco lost to Mohun Bagan in the Rovers Cup final, had Vivian had not been injured the outcome of the final would have been different.

GFA President Elvis Gomes said that from information available, Vivian who hailed from Sarzora represented St. Joseph High School School Arpora in footbal, hockey, volleyball and athletics. He was picked up by Vasco Sports Club as as their main goalkeeper from Pune University.

He breathed his last on 11th January 2018 in USA and is survived by wife Bella, son Belvin and daughter Vesna.

John Dias of Sarzora Club (Joncia) in his condolence message said that Vivian had brought glory to the village of Sarzora through his heroic efforts under the bar for Goa and Vasco.
