With clinical performances throughout the tournament, Tamil Nadu has been the toast of the 23rd edition of the Senior Women’s National Football Championship 2017-18. Having reached their first final at this level, star striker Indumathi thinks their historic achievement ‘is just a small step’ for the women’s game in Tamil Nadu.

“Yes, we have reached the final for the first time, but this is just a small step for women’s football in Tamil Nadu. We have many more things to achieve”, was her humble summation.

A woman of few words, she has been scintillating on the field, but akin to her nature she credits everything to her teammates, “My teammates provide me the correct passes for me to score the goals. Without them I’m nothing.”

“All I can say is that the team knows it’s strengths and plays according to them”, added the forward who has previously represented India at the Asian Games.

Team captain Nandhini M too provided her input on Tamil Nadu’s rise this year, “We trained real hard and studied our opponents. We change and adapt our game accordingly. It’s also an advantage that most of the players play together at the club level.”

“The understanding of each other’s game shows. We can almost sense what one thinking with the ball at her feet”, as she smiled at the bond the team shares.

“It will be a great achievement if we can the Championship. We know Manipur is a strong team and we respect our opponents but we also know that we have the ability to beat them”, the forward ending it on a confident note.
