Goa FA congratulate Maria Rebello for Asian Games nomination

The Goa Football Association (GFA) has congratulated Maria Rebello for being selected as a Technical Assessor in the Women’s Football Competition at the 2018 Asian Games, which will be held in Jakarta and Palembang in Indonesia.

GFA President Elvis Gomes broke the news of Rebello’s selection at a especially convened meeting in connection with the organization of the 2nd Edition of the GFA Vedanta Women’s League. Gomes said “It is a matter of great honour that Ms. Maria Rebello is the only match official from India to be appointed by the AFC for the Asian Games.”

He further said that Rebello serves as an inspiration to other women footballers and officials for achieving so much through the game of football.

Meanwhile, the Women’s League Organizing Committee decided to launch the league with the addition of three teams namely Ambelim Sports Club, Churchill Brothers Sports Club, and Goan Football Club to make it a eight-team league after the withdrawal of Santa Cruz Club of Cavelossim. The other teams in the league are Panjim Footballers, Sporting Clube de Goa, Goa-Velha Sports Club, Cuncolim Union, and Albert Developers Sports Club.

It was decided that the last date for the registration of the players will be 20.07.2018 after which the players draft will be conducted on 25.07.2018. The league launch will be held on 27.07.2018 after which the league will commence by the end of the month.

Among others present were Derrick Pereira, Prakash Dessai, Victor Fernandes, Anthony Vas, John Silva, Angelo Albuquerque, Melroy D’Silva, Girijadevi Dessai, representing their respective clubs and Maria Rebello, Arnaldo Costa, Sukhwinder Singh, Melroy Moura, Welvin Menezes representing the GFA and sponsors respectively.
