A second half goal from M.S. Dawngliana was enough to ensure Chhinga Veng FC retain their I-Day crown as they lifted the LG Independence Cup for the second season in a row.

The reigning Mizoram Premier League champions are on an undefeated streak this season with the MFA Super Cup already in their bag as they look to seal another treble winning season this year.

Dense fog had engulfed AR Lammual in the first half with the low visibility resulting in the match being halted twice for a certain period of time. The stoppages did not help both teams as they struggled to find proper rhythm in the first period.

When play did go on, chances were few and far between with only Lalromawia of Chhinga Veng FC having a clear threat on goal.

The fog cleared in half-time and the second half became on of the best 45 minutes of football this season as both teams looked to find the opener.

Chhinga Veng FC scored what would eventually be their winner on the 54th minute when M.S. Dawngliana won and converted his penalty after he was fouled inside the box.

Aizawl FC fought back hard and missed two very good chances to strike right back minutes after they conceded. But it was not to be as some smart defending from Chhinga Veng FC’s backline and some hardworking performances from their players further up the pitch ensured they lift their fifth trophy in top flight football.

Mizoram chief minister and founder president of the Mizoram Football Association Mr Lal Thanhawla gave away the trophies.
