Sporting Clube de Portugal ‘B’ have been held to a 2-2 draw by Naval 1º de Maio in a Liga Orangina (Liga de Honra) match at the Estádio Municipal de Rio Maior on Saturday.

The ‘Green & White’ side took the lead in the 33rd minute, when Bruma took advantage from the spot kick. The 18 year old striker put the penalty past the Naval keeper with a right footed shot and put the Lisbon side in the lead.

The match could have turned into the favour of the home side, but they brought back Naval to the game with an unneeded error in the own half. A Naval stiker dispossessed a defender to set-up João Pedro in the SCP box with a well-timed pass in the 37th minute. João Pedro slotted home to level the score and to give the visitors some hope for the second half.

Sporting looked more focus in the second half and their dominance paid off in the 60th minute. Diego Rubio put the home side in front with a beautiful volley off a well-timed cross from the right flank.

Bruma almost scored his second goal of the match minutes later, but his powerful left-footer was denied by the post.

SCP’s backline didn’t look too impressive in the match and they were once again punished for their sloppy play. Naval 1º de Maio hit the target with a fine chip by João Pedro in the 72nd minute to secure a 2-2 draw at the Estádio Municipal.

India star skipper Sunil Chhetri didn’t feature in the match today.
