Deportivo Saprissa U-23 gearing up for the IFA Shield

The U-23 team of Costa Rican record champions Deportivo Saprissa S.A.D. are gearing up to participate in the 117th “NVD” IFA Shield 2013.

The Costa Ricans will be sending a combined “All-Star Team” to Kolkata to take part in the prestigious tournament. Deportivo Saprissa have decided to travel to India with 14 players from their U-23 team called “Saprissa de Corazón” and three ex-players namely Alonso Solís Calderón, Walter Centeno Corea and Fausto González Sibaja.

The “Saprissa de Corazón” compete in the Costa Rican 2nd Division, the Segunda División de Costa Rica, which is played in two groups. Coach  Enrique Rivas’ team is currently ranked 3rd in Group B of the Segunda División de Costa Rica.

Deportivo Saprissa are scheduled to depart for Kolkata on Wednesday and the players are looking forward to an interesting journey according to sources in Costa Rica.

The Costa Ricans will face Mohun Bagan AC, Pune FC and Pailan Arrows in Group B. The Deportivo Saprissa U-23 team will kick-off their 117th IFA Shield 2013 campaign against Pune FC on March 3 [+ full fixtures].
