Mario Götze keen to win the UEFA Champions League at Wembley

Mario Götze

Borussia Dortmund’s teenage sensation Mario Götze is running a race against time as the midfielder is trying to recover just in time for the UEFA Champions League final at Wembley against his new club FC Bayern Munich.

Götze teared a muscle during Dortmund’s semi-final return leg match against Real Madrid at the legendary Estadio Santiago Bernabéu. The 20-year-old German international missed all the Bundesliga action since he suffered the injury, but his club is optimistic about Götze’s comeback for the showdown of the German arch-rivals at Wembley.

Göze himself is feeling better and he has already started with light training sessions a few days ago. Coach Jürgen Klopp is expecting his star to join the team for regular training on Monday. “I’m fine. I feel much better now. I’m doing everything to be fit for the final at Wembley,” Götze told BILD newspaper.

There will be a special focus on Götze and his performance, if he turns out against Bayern in the final. The youngster announced his spectacular € 37m move to the Bavarian side at the end of the season a few weeks ago and it has been the top story in German media since then.

But Götze stays calm and he is fully committed to Borussia Dortmund. “A win in the final, my last match for Borussia Dortmund, would be the biggest thing to happen to me.”

“It’s imperative to me to be part of it in London. I will give it everything for Borussia and I would like to help the team to win the trophy.”
