Shillong Lajong FC have signed Trinidad & Tobago international Cornell Glen for the upcoming I-League season.

The 31-year old joins the I-League side from Caledonia AIA, a team from Trinidad & Tobago’s top-level TT Pro League.

“We are pleased with the signing of an experienced player like Cornell Glen,” Larsing Ming (General Secretary, Shillong Lajong FC) told in an official club release. “I hope that Glen will gel well with the rest of the team and we look forward to him joining us and help the team put up a competitive performance in the upcoming I League.”

“Shillong Lajong FC has always been one of the well known clubs from that part of the world and to get an opportunity to play for them would be such an honour and something that would give me immense pride, more so if I could help the club do well in the league,” Glen told.

Glen was born in Port of Spain and he has represented his country regularly since 2002. He has earned 66 senior international caps for the “Soca Warriors”, while scoring 23 goals. The experienced striker featured in all three matches in T&T’s FIFA World Cup debut in 2006.

Glen started his clubd career back home at Futgof in 199. His journey as a professional footballer took him to various clubs including MLS teams MetroStars (now New York Red Bulls), FC Dallas, Columbus Crew, Los Angeles Galaxy, San Jose Earthquakes and many more.

The T&T international will be the first foreign player with MLS background to play in India. India skipper Sunil Chhetri spent a few months with MLS side Kansas City Wizards (now Sporting Kansas City), before leaving them to join the Indian national team’s 2011 AFC Asian Cup preparations.
